This is from the spring of 2015.  The background was somewhat dark, but I darkened it more because I liked the way the darkened background made the flower seem to glow.

Canon 60D, Canon 70-300@240mm, f/9, 1/1000, ISO400.

I appreciate all comments and critiques.

Barb: This is really nicely done IMO. I like your DOF choice and how the focus and light on the BG recedes. The tulip does indeed glow and is beautifully captured. My only potential suggestion is with regard to the leaf that overlays the first BG bloom. I go back and forth on thinking its OK and wishing it was not there. Still a superbly crafted image.>=))>

Very nice, Barb. I like the backlighting on the beautiful main subject, and the way it stands out. I like the comp with the receeding tulips in the bg. I think the right edge of the most distant bg tulip could be softened a bit.

Beautiful, Barb.  I like the glow and the subject is nicely sharp front to back with a very pleasant blur to the two oof buds.  I don't mind the leaf in front of the first bud, but I do see what Scott was talking about on the second bulb.  It looks like a selection edge with different adjustments to the two layers.  A little blur should fix it.  Very well done.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments and suggestions.  I haven't decided about the leaf that Bill mentioned, but here is a version with the correction that Dennis and Scott suggested.  I should have noticed that myself, but since I didn't, thank you for calling it to my attention so that I could correct it.

Barb, I see no real problem with either the sharp ege or the leaf over the first BG image. The one is a minor tweak, the other could only be cured by a different POV. Any PP correction destroys the perfect balance of the subject. The real question to me is does the subject command the image. IMO, it certainly does.
