Dark-eyed Junco & Redo

While a few Juncos hang around all summer, we get a lot of them in the fall and winter.  I've always found them to be one of the most photogenic of bird species and this specimen was not exception.  It was perched on an old cedar round that we scatter some peanuts on as part of our feeder stations.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 484 mm, hand held, f/7.1, 1/160, iso 640, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to a 12 MP 4x5 before resizing.  Taken October 21st at 11:01 AM under mostly cloudy skies.

Comments and criticisms are always welcome.

Thanks for looking,

I like this one Dennis.  Good pose with the head turn, good details as well.  It does look like it has a slight magenta cast, but that could just be my monitor.  The OOF streak under its tail is a bit distracting.  They have just started showing up here in central Illinois.  Thanks for sharing.

Beautifully sharp and detailed.  The colors of the bird and the color of the perch look great together, and the background is great.  I do agree about the OOF area under the tail but am not sure whether you could do anything to fix it.

Excellent, Dennis. Nice work getting that orange-pink along the flank. I agree with John that there is a slight magenta cast.

I've always thought that Dark-eyed Juncos were the fashion models of the bird world, going through series of poses for the photographer.

Yep, that time of year again.  We'll see these guys soon as fall sets in and moves into winter.  Always the first sign of seasonal change for me.  Nice job on this bird, Dennis.  The hardest thing about photographing this bird is to get the pink beak sharp. The overall sharpness here is excellent. Well done!

Very nice photo Dennis.  Head turn, eye reflection, depth of field, exposure, sharpness all great.  The background doesn't bother me except for the linear object near the tail.  Overall very nice one.

Here's a repost with the bg smoothed out and hopefully some of the magenta color cast removed.
