Athabasca Glacier, Icefields Parkway

Took one of the glacier motor coach tours up onto Athabasca Glacier early one morning while an overnight storm was clearing. It was pretty easy to imagine oneself back in the ice age as the glacier ground down the mountains and gouged out a valley. I looked most of the morning for a wooly mammoth but alas no luck. I did play around with a conversion and would especially appreciate your insights on that. All comments welcome.>=))>

I love the layers in the scene along with those wonderful swirling clouds, Bill. Hard to choose which version I like best so that is a good thing. Great work.

I think the color is really sweet on the lower right area of rock but overall the b&w appeals to me more.  Because of the clouds I don't see the shape of the mountain very much so having more separation between the clouds and rock in the b&w works for me, and it also brings out the texture in the ice at the bottom where in the color version that delicate ice is a bit overpowered by that startling blue of the sky in the upper left.

Nice image. I took that ride many years ago. Do they still give you a little cup to taste the glacial water running down?

I also like the layer effect the color version gives. The blue sky really adds to the image, but I just feel that the ice should be reflecting a little of that blue.

I am leaning toward the color on this one. I feel the variety and sandwiching of color gives the image more depth. Nice.

Bill, These are both excellent! Kind of hard for me to try and pick a favorite but I might have leaned slightly towards the color at first, but I'm also really enjoying the b&w. I will call it a tie! smiley. I like these a lot!!
