When we first started our garden some thirteen years ago Chrissy wanted to attract butterflies. For the first few years we had many monarchs, pipevine, giant, and black swallowtails, painted ladies, buckeyes and gulf fritillaries. Alas, only the fritillaries are present in any numbers now and even theirs is dramatically reduced from the heydays. Neighborhood mosquito suppression is the most likely cause for the decline. However I did have the chance to chase this little gem around the garden as it feasted on lantana and the afternoon sun. All comments welcome.>=))>

Gorgeous specimen and well captured, Bill. I like the diagonal, top down, frame filling, spread view wing of the BF on the lantana. Well done. The light really brought out the detail in the BF, and the dark bg is terrific (and a nice Haloween combination as well). devil

Lovely shot Bill, and the black BG really makes it pop.

It is indeed a beauty, Bill.  There's a fine "glow" to the bf, an amazing color match with the bit of flower sticking out and a fine contrast with both the green leaves and the black areas.  Mosquitos are no fun, but no butterflies is worse...
