Great Egret Portrait

When David and I were at Ridgefield our day on the driving route started and ended with Great Egrets.  This one was the start.  The end was watching one figure out what to do with a salamander (it finally got it down, I think).  Unfortunately that one was in such low light and at a distance, so I really didn't end up with anything much worth posting, though I saved a few frames to try and salvage.  I liked the side lighting on this one and I finally found a use for an 11x14 crop ratio.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, beanbag on car window, f/8, 1/4000, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 10.7 MP before resizing.  Taken at 9:43 AM on November 4th.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

This is beautiful.  The lighting is wonderful.  The detail is perfect.  It's one of the classic poses of Great Egrets.

I like the pensive look of the egret Dennis, and I love the soft details in the feathers. Nice work to keep the detail with all that white to work with.

Good portrait.  I like the detail in the feathers and I think the BG works well.  Would like just a bit more detail in the top of the egrets head if possible.  Thanks for sharing.

Very nicely done.  The Egret really stands out well against the background.  You have done a really good job of getting the exposure correct here.  These are amongst the most difficult birds to properly expose.   Nice composition and superb detail.
