Beech Tree in Snow BW

I've begun working on BW interpretations of floral images. Here is an image of a beech tree on a hillside covered with snow taken in 2012. In addition to converting to BW, I have taken some other minor liberties with the processing (a more literal version of the original image is in my gallery), but I figure I can still post it here rather than PA. I have also just posted a more photo-artish (but color) version of this in the PA gallery. Beech tree, Mill Creek Park, Youngstown, D700, 180 f3.5 @ f8, 1/250, iso 250, single image, converted to BW. Please view large. Suggestions and other comments welcome.

Wonderful, almost-stylized presentation.

I like the simplicity of the image.  It has a painterly, oriental feeling to it.

Hi Scott,  a very nice composition and great processing - the BW rendition works beautifully with this subject.

This is serious work, Scott. Excellent tonal range and, to use an overworked phrase, "very painterly". The composition feels just a bit awkward to me, but I can't see how you would do it differently in post processing. Anyway, I will take it like this, because it is very, very good!devil

A graphic beautiful photo Scott, a drawing made with a pen ink on a white drawing paper. I love this image.

Gorgeous forms and lines, Scott, and the snow-on-snow works very well.  A beautiful image.

Wonderful, Japanese-like effect, Scott, especially in the way the trunk lies so high in the frame !  The image crackles with life.

Nicely done.  You created a solid balance between what is cropped and the size of the twig / leaf and formation.  Tough to do ...and you did it well.

Scott: I really like this. The grays in the leaves and the treatment of the snow are top notch. The dark trunk is the perfect complement. Compositionally I might be tempted to crop this to 4:5 from the bottom to eliminate some of the empty space in the LLC. 2+ thumbs up! >=))>
