YNP Coyote #2

Here's another look at this YNP coyote after it moved far enough away to get a full head shot.  Both this and my earlier post are full frame.  (7D2, 400mm f5.6, 1/400s, f/8, iso 800, tripod)

Hi Mark, this capture I feel has a lot more going for it compared to the previous posting, well framed. Love the gentle tones of the BKG which I feel complements the subject nicely, in addition the HA (Head Angle cool) is cool, as I like the fact you have both eyes visible. The subject has also benefited from the soft light helping the whites, nice one. devil

I could be wrong, but to me the focus point appears to be more on the RHS as viewed, as the eye and ear look sharper, interesting especially at f/8, perhaps some additional selective sharpening may help the left eye?

This is a handsome animal Mark. Nice side lighting, you did very well balancing the shadow and the light. I do like the little extra space in this one.

Steve, after another close look, you're right about the left eye being just a touch soft.  Looks like "buck fever" on the part of the photog, where I probably had the autofocus set to catch the body, not the head.  The operator clearly needs more practice...

That's one healthy looking coyote.  Nice reflective pose.  Nice detail and BG.  Lighting feels balanced.

Nice portrait of this coyote, Mark!  The coyotes up here are quite shy and it would nearly impossible to get this close.  A great opportunity for you!

Hello Mark,...sweet....good lookin guy too!   Seems sharp and ok to me! But the rim light coming down the ear into the upper face is highlite-brite.  Love the clear bright eyes , seeing his colours clearly!

Thanks for sharing! My Guys are very timid and do see them mostly at nightime on my trail camera, But maybe sometime i'll get lucky for a daytime capture !

Hi Mark,

I quite like this one - and you've already received some good feedback. I wonder if a little more light-dark contrast (with the right side of the coyotes head - so left side as we look at it - being just a TAD darker) might make this one a little more eye-catching? While this is impossible to say definitively without seeing the original raw capture, to me this one looks like the differential in brightness that was naturally in this shot has been "beaten back" just a little too much?

Cheers...
