Does this work? I loved the head-on view of this Cape buffalo, but the BG grasses were a very ugly yellow-green. Kept lightening the BG, and finally almost all de-saturated.

The large version certainly shows the chilling stare that these animals have.  One day I might find a kindly one but the wait will be a long one.  One point - it is a Cape Buffalo (Syncerus caffer) and not a Water Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis).

Does it work?  For me, yes, it works because it catches my interest and invites my eye to explore.  The overall effect feels much like "photo art" however, rather than striving for all natural appearance.  Thanks for the interesting posting!

Does it work for me? Nope...not for me - it feels just a little too contrived. That being said, I quite like the B&W treatment you've given this shot. I think for this one to work best as a B&W (for me...others may have a very different opinion) I'd crop it a LITTLE tighter and, in doing so, remove the darker band of bushes at the top of the frame.

But I DO think it's great that you posted this shot - gives others things to think about and what they do and don't like about this kind of approach. Good to see "out of the box" thinking.

Thanks for sharing this one...
