Rural scene I

by Peter Richter

With this capture I would like to start a series of rural scenes from Forest Quarter, the northwestern region of Lower Austria. The first snow last week accentuated the structures interestingly to me.

Comments and critique are appreciated.

The graphic nature of the fields really appeals to me; I think I would like them even by themselves without the trees on the horizon.  The trees and horizon are not engaging me that much but I'm not sure why.  It could be I am tripping over the blank area in the lower left; without the trees, the image becomes pure texture and lines and that space fits in, but with the trees it seems empty.

Peter, That first snow added such a nice graphic quality to this image and I'm quite enjoying it. Doing a scroll crop I decided I like it best as you have it here. Have not had our first snow here but it will be coming soon...Nick

The frost and patterns certainly work very well IMO. I would crop above that bottom horizontal line as it disrupts the visual flow from bottom to top.

I like the barren look and the graphic composition. You could bring up the highlights a bit but that would change the mood.

Peter

The B&W conversion certainly bring out the graphical nature of the image.  Like Kah Kit, I find the horizontal line at the bottom disruptive; crop it as suggested by him or alternatively try rotating the image so that the line is horizontal rather than slightly sloping and see it improves the visual impact.

Interesting, almost B&W photo Peter. I like the lines of the field running down the slope. It has kind of a soapbox derby look.
