November Sunrise
This picture isn't what I thought my third week of November image would look like...but this is it. Last Friday morning (18th) there was just a bit of glow in the sky way before sunrise and I had the feeling that it might be one worth shooting. I got in my truck and headed to a State Natural Area called Bakken's Pond which is only 2-3 miles from my home. This is one of the shots I made that morning and I sure did enjoy this November Sunrise. The day before this it was 70 degrees which is not very November like for Wisconsin but now this morning I had 13 degrees. We will probably have snow soon now and I just started the the wood fire in our fireplace a bit ago for the evening. Click the image for the much better large view and thanks for any thoughts.
Canon 5DMK3, 24-105L @ 32mm, ISO 100, F/16 and 0.4 sec. No grad filters on this one.
I did do a crop of this with less sky but ended up liking the full image best.

Nick,

There is a quiet, yet brooding mood here - like pending changes in the forecast. ;-)  You've captured that mood , although I'd be hard pressed to say November if you had posted, say in May... ;-)

Love the contrast and colors here.  I didn't pick up the blue in the cloud up top until I opened the larger view. I think that adds a lot and the range of color really makes this, and it's the contrasts between light and dark that set the mood.

No nits or suggestions.

Thanks Lon! I would never have guessed November either other than knowing it was..cool The weather certainly was changing  fast this day with wind kicking in and temps dropping all day. More of an unusual November picture for me but that kind of seems the case this year. That is all changing now and I think November might be here. Nick

We get many sunsets with reflections like this in Baja. But not with that really dark sky. I think that's what makes this sunset stand out from the others. Thanks for sharing.

Very dramatic capture, Nick. The sky is just incredible. Be even better if it had more interest in the foreground, but the sky is strong enough to carry the image, regardless.

I really like the color palette and the nice mix of warm and cool tones.  The dark clouds create a bit of tension and hint at more ominous weather.  Nicely composed and presented!

This is real nice, Nick.  I love the dark stormy sky.  Has Lon alluded to, I'm not sure this one is screaming November, but definitely worth the inclusion in the series.

The sky is what makes this image for me. An the reflected light on the water in the center leads the eye to the most dramatic part of the image.

Beautiful sunrise, Nick. Sure wish I had something like natural area close to home. The sky has a real nice variety of clouds and colors, and I like your use of the sticks in the water to frame the bright reflection.

Great range of tones from cool to warm and an overall sense of the peace of an early morning sunrise.  I love it as is but also wonder whether a ratio stressing the horizontality even more would also work ?

Very nice, tranquil scene. I can see pulling up a chair and sipping a single malt while enjoying this view. It would be heavenly.

Gorgeous work as always, Nick. The drama in the sky with the various shades of colors is very striking, particularly that one blue cloud as it is a great counterpoint to that bit of red sky along the horizon and the warm color coming across the water is gorgeous. I look forward to the rest of your Moods of November series.

Very different from 1 and 2, which I must confess I like more, but this is a classic and beautifully rendered dawn scene.

Wow, thought I'd commented on this one already, Nick....  This is lovely, with a fine combination of quietly inviting colors.  Just the kind of time where you want to sit and absorb.  I think the trailing clouds up top and the subtle touches of color up there work well at strengthening the sense of being there immersed, rather that looking at a scene (which is what cropping half of the sky feels like to me).
