Transitions

This is another image from my recent trip out to GSMNP.  This was taken from the same location as my previous post, but on a different morning.  The fog on this morning was much more dense and widespread.  I really like the color palette in this image with the varying degrees of transition in the leaves.  I also like the transition between the dense fog and the clear foreground.

As always all comments and critiques are welcome.

Capture Info:
130 mm
f11 @ 0.3 sec
ISO 100

Processing Info:
Levels adjustment to set black and white points
Curves adjustment using TK's luminosity mask selection for basic midtones
TK's focused vibrance mask

The gradualness of the transitions works beautifully, Brian, and the sombre colouring gives a real feel of autumn ( that deep red of what I imagine is a maple is especially gorgeous ! )  In the smaller version I do find the fg just a touch dark, but, in the large version, it seems absolutely right.

Real nice! Good mood. I agree with Ian about the small looking on the dark side, but the large works perfectly. I might burn the tree trunk lower right as I find it a bit of an eye magnet, but really minor. Very well done.

Very nice subtle colors colors in this. The fog provides a nice layering effect and helps the muted colors.

I love the transitions in this scene, Brian. You start off with some autumn color, then you have some trees still with their summer greens. All of this takes place as you have the trees receding into the fog in the BG. My only suggestion would be to clone out that one dead tree in the LRC as it does catch my eye a little bit. Great work.

Brian,

Man, there is a huge difference in impression between the small and large versions.  Honestly, I was already formulating my comments based on the small version. Something along the lines, I don't think this is as strong as your previous version..... Then I came back later and just viewed the large version. This one really sings!   There is a distinct transition and the extreme contrast from clear to foggy is showcased very nicely here.  Very interesting to me because with most images there is not a big difference between the two views, but with this one it's a big difference. At least for me.

One subtle, yet wonderful element to this image is the lone tree that sits between the clear and fog.  The bg trees in fog and there is one tree right in the rule of thirds position that I think really adds to the image.

No major suggestions, but would agree with Harley on a minor suggestion to burn down the tree in the LRC.  Also, and now we're getting really nitpicky.... I see one sensor dust spot near the right edge mid frame. (yes, I go over this images with a fine toothed comb...) angel

Great eye and capture.

Brian, Yes, the large version is a must look here. I very much enjoy the subtle colors and wonderful feel this has. Nice job with this comp and working with the fog here. The transition from front to back works so well. I also really like that one lone tree in heavy fog just ahead of the very background ones. Nice work on this!

Really nice image, Brian.  I agree with the burning of the bottom right trunk.  Other than that, I love it.

I like the image for the same reasons you do, Brian. The large version really shines.
