Cooks Meadow Morning

After wandering around on the shaded, and chilly, south side of Yosemite Valley, I headed over to Cooks Meadow to find some sunshine. As I walked around the meadow enjoying the new sun, I saw this scene.

Better large. Thanks!

Your thoughts are always appreciated. cool

Simple yet complex. I like how you presented the background to set the grasses off and isolate.

Real nice Preston. Great layering of light, color and vegetation. I like what Jim said, simple yet complex.

Preston, This is very nicely done. The light here is wonderful and I too like Jim's thoughts on simple yet complex. That describes this quite well I think. At first I wasn't quite sure about the very foreground lower grass but after looking a bit I like it. The light there might be to nice to loose.

Preston,

I like this just as much as the first time I saw this.  The larger view is a must - for some reason these smaller versions are darker and thus lose some detail.  I say that because one of the things that I really like about this image is the bg forest.  It doesn't jump out at you like the grass does, but it's so very important to the success of this image, IMHO.  Usually there may be some light areas showing through, various detractios like snags or different colored leaves, etc. - but I really like the bg trees. (Perhaps a future subject matter itself?)

Of course the layering here is also the main feature here and you've crafted this nicely.  No nits here.

This is gorgeous, Preston. The large version is a must to really appreciate all the layers and the lovely details in the grasses and forest. Great light BTW.

Preston, whether intentional or not the composition has a neat layer sizing affect from front to rear. Basically increasing in vertical height from the small green area to the larger row of dark growth in the rear. The delicate sunrays make this one work well...laugh

The grass master has returned with another wonderful image.  To me, this is all about the contrasting layers.  The isolated tops of the grasses are exceptional. Love this Preston.

It feels good to walk into the sun light, doesn't it? Like the layers of light you caught in this.

I like the layering of the composition.  The contrasting light between the tall grasses and the dark trees really lends a sense of depth to the composition.

I like this a lot, but what really works for me is the barely "inferable" detail in the shadows against the brightly lit grasses.

This image has taken some time to grow on me. There's a nice peaceful late fall look to it that I've always enjoyed in those meadows. I'm not sure about the greens in the fg because they seem, to me, to be discordant with the overall feel. In addition, I like the fact that the trees can be easily differentiated in the distant forest but would like it if this was more pronounced. I would lighten the forest a tad yet still maintain good texture and contrast.
