Musiara Elephants

A breeding herd of Elephants grazing in warm golden light in the Musiara Marsh in the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. This image was captured last August while leading a photographic safari to Kenya. I liked this composition with the other members of the herd in the distance giving a true sense of space.

Mario,

I agree with you, the sense of space due to the others, but also the background trees benefits the composition, as it does also the light. The image shows that one can make something "special" from a often seen subject, if setup up differently.

The composition of the subjects is great, Mario, and works really well black-lit and silhouetted like this.  Well spotted.  I do wish the edge of the trees at right weren't so close to the top of the elephant, but it's difficult to make vertical adjustments on safari.  Nicely done here.

Hi Mario,

I like the sense of space you refer to...and the depth that goes along with it. For me the "elephant in the room" (so to speak) is how the main subject is cut in half by the edge of the frame...not really sure what to think of that but it somehow doesn't work that well for me aesthetically.

Cheers...
