After the catch

This image was taken at Bombay Hook NWR this December. I watched this Kingfisher for about about 30 minutes. He seemed to catch a fish about every 5 minutes. It was a real thrill since I have had trouble taking a picture of these birds before they move on.

It was taken with Canon 7D Mark II

EF 70-300 at 269 mm, f/7.1, ISO 500, 1/2500 sec

Comment and critique appreciated

Wonderful action and timing, Bill.  This is a really tough species, so it's great that you found a cooperative individual.  Did you prefocus on the perch?  I ask because the bird seems just a bit soft in the larger image.

Congrats on getting this fine action photo of the Kingfisher, a difficult bird to photograph, at least in my experience.

Nice action shot.  I agree with Dennis that the head is a little soft.  But that could also be the result of your level of enlargement.  Kingfishers don't stay still for very long and they are very hard to photograph.
