If someone had to bring a weaver into this country, I wish they'd chosen this one instead of the House Sparrow. A beautiful bird and an interesting perch. Well photographed.

This is a lovely shot of the bird on a thorny twig that is so typical of its dry habitat. However, it is a Scaly-feathered Finch and not a Sociable Weaver. While the weaver has a narrower distribution than the finch, its range is entirely within that of the finch. Thus if you come across the weaver you will almost certainly find the finch as well. That said, while I have some pictures of the weaver, I have none of the finch. I am planning a trip into the dry areas for 2017 and will try to fill the gap.

Thanks, Jake - I think I have mis-identified this finch several times by now. Pretty unclear in my "birds of Africa" book from Kruger.

What a great perch for this beauty to pose for you on Sandy! Even with the bird centered, this is a very pleasing composition because how the perch flows through the frame. Excellent Detail!

Sandy,
Most certainly a scaly feathered finch, I have always found this species is difficult to capture well, you have done it here.
