Bear Creek in Winter

This is another picture I made in the Wisconsin River Bottoms on the same morning as my last post. This one includes Bear Creek before it flows into the Wisconsin River about 100 yards out from this location. This creek and area has always been a favorite part of the river bottoms for me.

Sigh, lovely white fresh snow fall.  If you could see the grey, wet, rainy snow free foul miserable sludge that Is contentedly venerated by the words, "lovely and mild" (a quote from by our beloved weather forecasters), currently passing for winter, then you would know how undernourished we feel here in this our vitamin D deficient country, Scotland - show me more I'm famished.

Another fine image from that morning, Nick. I really like the way you composed this with the trees framing the sweeping, curving creek. Once again, the atmosphere helps create a nice mood.

Still another winter gem, Nick. I definitely would like to see this country in the winter. There is such richness in subject matter. One could get to love this country. The only issue I have is the grass extending from the bottom of the frame. It just looks like too much to clone out though. If you were so inclined I would clone out the darker clump in the center, the 2 diagonal strands on the right, and the one left center - all along bottom frame. Aside from the arc formed over the river, what makes this image are the 2-3 limbs that stretch across the water. Well seen.

I like the way that the trees form an arc over the river that invites the viewer into the scene.   The fog adds some nice tonal variation and helps create separation between the trees while of course also adding to the mood.

Fog, snow, winter trees and a nice stream.  Hard to beat this combination, Nick.  A wonderfully inviting winter scene.  I'm ready to go exploring.

very good composition, Nick. It makes me want to follow the river to discover what there is behind the fog.

Another beauty, Nick. These are some fantastic conditions. I really love this monochromatic look with just a hint of color. 16 x 9 crop works great. Well done.

Another spectacular image Nick.  I like the wider composition in that while it's not as "striking" as your previous image, it gives a better understanding of the terrain.  Again, the leaf litter is an important element for me (I love it!), as is the fog.  One slight nit - I noticed some oversharpening halo's in the larger image.

Beautiful mood and comp Nick. Love the fog in the distance. I really feel like I am standing there in the silence of snow.

Hi Nick,

Another beautiful image you have captured of winter. It looks like the walk I was on the other day out here by where I am living. You make me feel like I am right in the image with you, and the fog adds a beautiful layer of atmosphere. Cheers and happy winter to you Nick!!!!\

Maybe some ice caves this year?

Really like this.  The snow is a great contrast with the trees.

Yet another winter winner Nick! This "lovely and mild" ;-) winter landscape is wonderful.  I like everything about this; the comp is awesome, how the trees bend over the river and even the foreground of leaves and grass work to ground this rock-solid comp.

I didn't really notice any sharpening artifacts in the large version until I read the comments, but see hints. and that's very minor.

Otherwise, I'm truly enjoying your winter series.  I'm guessing you have big plans for a seasonal series from the river bottoms.

This is just so inviting, Nick. The sweeping curve of the water, the leaf litter along with the light fog have created another winter gem of a landscape. You are on a roll; keep them coming.

Missed this beautiful, serene image when first posted. Wonderful mist and array of trees.
Feels just a bit unbalanced to me - I'd suggest a little less snow on the bottom, and a little more trees on top.
A very fine image either way -
