Black Oak Cathedral

Thanks again for your comments on my previous image.  And I gotta say, ALL the images we've seen in the Landscape Gallery sitting on the front page right now - are amazing.  It's so inspiring viewing all this great work.

Well, just like the rock wall, this isn't the first time I've posted an image of these trees.  Perhaps the most photographed gathering of black oak in the Valley.  This little grove sits at the far west end of El Capitan meadow.  And just like the rock wall, I always have to stop here. The "Black Oak Autumn" image I posted about a month ago is part of this grove, but out of frame on the left.
Always love this and can't help but try and capture it.

Your comments and critiques always welcome.

Wow, I am surprised that no one has commented on this. I can see why you always make a stop here during your visits, Lon. These oaks are very stately and colorful with their autumn leaves in their prime and the large version does a masterful job of showing them off. Everything is arranged beautifully in the scene from the FG grasses to the stand of oaks, all with the back drop of the valley walls. Gorgeous work.

The trees are gorgeous, color and light are nice. I might try and bring out the blue/green bg colors for even more contrast with the gold trees.

Gorgeous, Lon, love this location.  Although, what's not to like in Yosemite.

Real nice El Cap meadow scene. The colors at the top look a bit on the intense side on my screen? Maybe it could use a slight CW rotation?  What really makes this image is the little green trees in the back. Those really pulls me in and through the scene.

I can see why you are drawn back to this location year after year.  This is an inviting landscape that becomes one to linger.  The color is beautiful and the lines from the tree branches keep my eyes moving through the scene.

Lon,
This is outstanding!  I love the warm glow of this image. The luminosity (back lighting?) of the foliage offset against the dark trunks is just gorgeous. I think Dan maybe on to something with his suggestion to coax up the blue/green tones in the BG.That may create additional depth. In any case, this is a very fine image.

I like the title. They do look like the rib vault arches of a cathedral. Could nature have been the inspiration for this form of architecture?

This is really pretty.  I like how you feel like you are walking in under these trees.  They feel REALLY big. Comp and colors and really nice.  There is a warm, comforting feel to this, and the processing is spot on.  Nice one!

Lon, The large version of this is a real treat to view. Beautiful work! I would be stopping there often as well. Merry Christmas!
