Hummingbird Display
by Dennis Plank
Shooting hummingbirds in the garden is another of my favorite photographic activities and we were blessed with quite a few from early spring through mid summer. They are well known for their pugnaciousness and the flared tail is a typical threat display. Unfortunately, I'm rarely quick enough to capture it, but I got lucky in this case.
7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600mm, f/9, 1/200, iso 640, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to a 12.6 MP 4x5. I cloned out a small piece of an additional branch. Taken at 7:54 AM on May 22nd, 2016.
Comments and criticisms are most welcome.
Thanks,

4 commentsYou've caught a wonderful display of plumage here, and as you mentioned the flared tail is a real plus too. Seems like he setup for you in a perfect spot also with the slightly darker BG to enhance the portraiture outline. I also detected a tiny catch light in his eye which is another plus to the close-up here.....
