Light & Shadow #2

So here is the second in my light and shadow series from my recent trip to the Grand Canyon.  I had a lot of fun on this morning just shooting detail shots as the lighting changed.  This was taken from the same spot as my previous post (Pima Point on the South Rim).

As is the case with most photographers who visit the Grand Canyon (especially for the first time as was the case for me), I was hoping to capture sweeping landscapes with vibrant sunrises and sunsets.  While I got a few of those kind of shots, I definitely ended up with a lot more detail shots such as this.

Thank you all for your constructive comments on my previous post!  crying  As always all comments and critiques are welcome.

Merry Christmas!

Capture Info:
95 mm
f/11 @ 1/50 sec.
ISO 100

Processing Info:
TK's luminosity masks, focused vibrance masks, cloud sharpening (low-pass filter to bring out the contrast and texture in the rocks).

The light and processing looks very nice in these. Enough detail in the shadows for me.  I do prefer the comp of the first one because I think it has more "sweep" to it.

Brian,

The large view is exceptional!  I really like how you've captured an intimate view of the canyon, yet it still comes off as a grand landscape.  The light, exposure and processing is excellent.  I'm enjoying the natural color/saturation you've processed and presented - this is an image that comes across as one if I were standing there viewing it.  Well done.

Perfect entry for the "shadows" theme.
I've always found the Grand Canyon tough to shoot, and actually it is not one of my favorite places.
Maybe with a wide-angle for pano shots.
Fine image here!

Beautifully captured, Brian. Looking at the large view makes me feel like I'm right there beside you. Wonderful light and shadow in this comp that works so very nice. Excellent work! Merry Christmas!

This is a fine "tight" look at these shapes in the canyon, Brian.  The light/shadow play makes for a nicely dramatic view and the sideways "C" of the main peaks pulls my eyes in and sweeps them around.  I wonder what an image taken a few steps sideways (to avoid the shadowed ledge, bottom center) would look like even as I like how that shadow emphasizes the "C" and forces my eyes to the corners.  After a quick look at your earlier post, I like this one better because the sweeping feeling.

Very nice lighting in this image.   You have caught the shapes and textures well with superb shadowing and warmth.   The Canyon is a pretty amazing place as you have figured out already.   No matter where you are, whether it is at the bottom, the top or in between, there is so much to photograph.  And it is always changing.

This is great.  Love all the shadows.  Lots of places to look in this.  I like this better than your other one.  Really good comp; nicely balanced, and there aren't any "empty" spots at all.  Nice!
