Whalescape

Most photos taken of whales are taken in warmer weather months. This one however, was taken this December in Alaska complete with snow covered mountains. Nikon D500, 80-400 lens at 1/1000, f/11 and Auto ISO at 1100. Richard

PS the objects on the shoreline are icebergs, not houses.

Something different, for sure.
A beautiful scene, but since there are houses, etc in the BG, this probably should go in the Man and Nature Gallery. I'd personally clone out the bright house blips on the shoreline.
Looks very cold, with the snow blowing off the top of the mountain.
The whole image seems a bit dark, perhaps lightening it up a bit would help. Also, trying the shadow-reducing tool should bring back some detail in the very dark areas.
Like this a lot!

Sandy: thanks for the comment. The bright blips aren't houses, they are icebergs.  cool I think the darkening you see is something I notice when posting to NPN. On my screen the image looks properly exposed. However when I post to NPN, the image appears darker. Frequently I'll post, look at the posting and think it's dark and re-post a lighter version. This time I didn't, and you astutely noticed it .  Richard

Richard, I like your choice to center the whale fluke against those mountains.  It's a lovely scene.  I agree that it seems a bit dark or contrasty, perhaps, but I do like the mix of blue tones throughout.

I like the sense of place one gets from this - the fluke is well placed in the composition as well.
Pity about the houses but human development, even for tourism regardless of residential, is taking over our wild places slowly but surely. One day we might not be able to get any wider shot without including hand-of-man elements (now there's a sad thought).
