Three Trunks

I liked the simplicity of this scene and of course the snappy spring ferns. I stepped back and used a long lens to compress, and visually stack all of the elements. There is actually about 10 feet of distance from front to back.

LOVELY!!  I like this concept a lot and your using the longer lens proved very successful.  Beautiful greens.  The trunks appears to be a little on the blue side but I'm on an uncalibrated monitor at the moment so that may not be accurate.  Excellent work.

Nice image, Steve, the trees are nicely balanced in the fern forest. The trunks do look a bit blue/gray but present nicely with the bright ferns. I think this slight oddity gives the image some staying power. Well done.

Very nice image, Steve.  I like the placement of the trunks and the tele compression works really well.  Front to back sharpness doesn't hurt either.  A large version would be nice to see.

A creative capture of this intimate scene for me, Steve. I like the way the diverse elements contrast with each other in shape and color. Your choice of luminance is spot on to my eye.

Steve,

This is wonderful; beatifully seen and captured.  I love the arrangement of the 3 trunks providing some nice depth; along with the fine details in the ferns front to back.  Great eye to compose this.

It's probably just me since this hasn't been mentioned, but for me this is just a tad on the bright side.  Peter mentioned "luminance" which I think is what I'm thinking is a bit bright. Also, I agree with others the trunks are slightly blue as well.

Clearly though, you've got a winner here!

I like the syncopated rhythm in the spacing of the trees while the ferns add some nice color and texture.

Very nice I like long focal length compositions they offer a perspective change that is very agreeable.

Love your composition and the luminous quality of the ferns; the warm greens of the ferns in the spring really reflect the joy of spring.  I might try to reduce the brightness of the trees only, leaving the ferns as is.  The brightness of the bark seems to distract slightly from the glorious greens.  Realize this is just an opinion.  Your image is beautiful and your use of the 400mm focal length certainly worked very well.  Excellent work.

This is fabulous.  I love the placement of the trees, the compression front to back, and the clarity and detail.  The bluish cast to the trees makes the greens vibrate, which I really like, but it would be interesting to see it with the blues toned down and the brightness adjusted slightly.  My guess is that it will have less impact with those adjustments, and sometimes I really like a vibrant color wow factor like this.

Hi Steve, i think the slightly 'over the top' finish fits to this graphic composition perfectly - composition and PP is, for me, spot on ...
