WC#768- Spiny Orb Weaver's Web

We were waiting in line near the entrance of Green Cay in Delray Beach, FL. It was a beautiful day, and as I usually do, looked up. I was surprised to see this large Spiny Spider (nothing like it in New England) and the hugest web I have ever seen. It went between several telephone poles and light posts, including the sign at the entrance. Easily 6 feet or more in diameter. I've researched this, and most sources say Spiny orb weavers have webs of 8-10 inches, are at an angle, and have 1-3 males dangling from a single thread each. The fact that this web was so big boggles the mind. I am waiting for a reply from an entomology group to explain this. I'll let y'all know.

Lori ...nice work of the spiny orb weaver. A new canvas here, love those tufts of silk across the frame...
