The BFR

Thanks everyone for your comments on my last post.  I'm really only posting this for reference and a continuation of capturing and working this place called Yosemite.  If you don't get the BFR, then you didn't read my last post. :-)  I'll just leave it at that.

I literally hadn't even opened this up in ACR until this morning. I really had no intention of working this. But I decided to because I wanted to give some reference to my previous post.  Of course it's not necessary and I'm guessing many of you even go so far as to say you don't even want to know; let an image speak by itself, it should need references.  But then I started to work the image and it kinda grew on my so I decided to post.

This was captured less than 10 min before my previous post.  The last light striking El Cap is a little more like what one might see, although I think still a tad strong.  You can see quite a few "floaters" throughout the scene, especially going across the face of the rock.  I cloned some of the worst ones, but in some parts of the reflection, especially the darker ULC, you can see grasses and the river bottom through the reflection and decided not to clean this up entirely. Do any of those streaks bug you?

I decided to leave the brighter reflection at the bottom for context and also to make sure the view knows this is a reflection turned upside down.

Anyway... your thoughts on this regardless of how it might be related to another image, will be greatly appreciated!

Lon

Saw these kinds of comps there as well.  Something about viewing it all upsidedown is fun.  Love this version.  The hint of motion is perfect.

Beautiful light and I like the reflected scene. That said, it works far better for me as captured upside down.

I like it, Lon. I think it's a creative and fun way to show the reflection, although right side down (up?) reflections generally take some explaining to the viewer before they are appreciated. The beautiful light on El Cap is a nice bonus here.

Looks like a very special moment in the valley. El Cap with the sunlight and trees below is a great composition. Honestly, I would have just shot the subject directly without the reflection and inversion. I think that on it's own is a very good image.

This is really cool, Lon.  It did a number on me trying to figure out what I was looking at: a drive-by pic? a reflection? a long exposure? As much as I like this, I think I like the preceding one a bit better, maybe because it doesn't require me to work as hard to figure it out.

I really like this Lon. You've handled the dynamic range transition perfectly and the upside down comp is interesting although I could see it working normally. Just the right amount of flow/distortion to create some art.

I like this alot Lon.  Took me a few minutes to figure out what was up or not up, as is in fact the case.  I think it is very appropriate to mess with peoples heads.  I have got to make it to Yosemite one of these days and explore a bit.  If the crowds are anything like Zion, that may not be any time soon. Amazing detail in the reflection and the bits of flow make this a very compelling image.

I like this a lot, Lon. The light on the wall is simply amazing and the movement of the water gives a dynamic feeling to the image.

Mesmerizing image, Lon. The flipped, clear reflection is very intriguing. As usual, your processing looks great. A minor suggestion but I find the one white streak right at the sun/shadow line a bit distracting. Personal preference but I think I would clone out.

An interesting take on this place, Yosemite you call it sad  An imaginative shot - the flipping it.  I think I prefer the prior post, though the green grasses seem a little over saturated.  Not a big deal.  I think I like the way the reflected wall is mixed in with the grasses in your prior shot.  The greens are a bit more subdued here - maybe brightening them a little might keep this section more in balance with the rock portion of the wall.  I'm quickly drawn to the wall even though there are some interesting things going on in the tree reflection area.  I'm sure it can be easy to get lost in trying to get iconic images from Yosemite, so I commend you and your Yosemite Gang for bring us the less obvious gems that the park offers.

Good job using the natural filter of the water for the light on El Cap. I imagine it is a bit sweeter and exposure controlled over the actual thing. Nice image!
