Moment in Time

Sure, it's just a leaf that came to rest on a sand bar.  Found, untouched, simple comp, no drama, light, etc.  While this can be said about any image that's captured, this really defines my experience and love of photography.

This little simple scene no longer exists in nature, and it will never, ever occur again; the ripples, undulations, this black oak leaf and who knows where all the grains of sand are now.  This little scene is now under water again and that little moment in time is gone forever - except that it's been preserved in an image.

Thanks! Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Lon

I like the interesting patterns in the sand.  In the large version there are some nice color contrasts in the sand which compliment the leaf.

Very nice, Lon.  Just like makers of fine art prints, nature often creates very limited editions, usually just one, and sometimes that one has a very short lifespan.  Rivers, shorelines, and sand dunes are constantly reinventing themselves.  Thanks for sharing a moment in the life of this little beach.

Yup, that one moment in time is gone.  As you said, it will never be like that again.
Good job of finding and composing this.  I have tried many, many times to get an image of sand ripples that I liked....haven't done it yet.  This is nice.  Lots of swirls and shadows, and the leaf is perfect.

Oh Lon, this is well done, indeed! devildevil  I'd love to see this blown up.  The shape and texture of the leaves and the larger grains on the slopes of the depressions are nice.  I, especially, like the touch of color with the inclusion of the reddish oak leaf against the overall monochromatic setting.

Lon: this is an excellent example of less is more. The muted palette and relative smoothness of that portion of the sand bar make a fitting background for the well defined and colorful leaf.

Well seen intimate landscape image, Lon. The orange oak leaf provide an excellent contrasting focal point for the bluish/gray sandbar background. The creases and swirls in the sandbar contribute nicely to the artistry of the image. If this were mine, I'd be tempted to clone out the small dark object in the URC and maybe the aspen leaf as well, leaving just the single oak leaf.

I really like this Lon.  The variety of subtle colors in the sand is so attractive and the color of the leaf jumps out at you in contrast.  The only thing I might say would improve it would be if the scene was composed so that the leaf was more in the upper third of the image vertically.  The leaf is perfect horizontally.
