Merced River Scenic #793

Thank you so much for your comments and feedback on the previous post.  With your feedback I'm feeling good that I was able to improve on that image. That's what this is all about isn't it?

A mild joke about #793.  I could probably write my own photo app that is like Google's Street View, only this would be for photographers.  First, the GPS location info on where the photo was taken, now expanded to a "location view" where one could "walk the trail" and find the most pleasing comp and images - then just go there and snap away... Yeah, that's the ticket....

Seriously now... this is the same tree and similar scene to an image that Preston Posted a couple months back.  He was a little more downstream - this view is more upstream and looking directly across the river.  I really like the calmness of the Merced in this stretch and the streaking of the foam bubbles during a long-ish exposure.

Your thoughts and suggestions always appreciated!

Thanks,
Lon

You own that river! Very nice as presented and looks good as is.  If I were going to make any changes it might be to crop to the big shore boulder and keep the one pine tree above the boulder. Since the colorful tree seems to be the subject of the image, just might tighten it up. The streaming water add some nice movement to the others wise stillness of the trees.  There are some small portions of the evergreens that look too cyan and out of place compared to the rest of the tree?  Not sure if it was introduced during processing?

A nice peaceful autumn scene. I would be tempted to pull the blues way down, but that tends to be my bias in most images. I think it pops the colors more and makes the river neutral, but YMMV.

Lon: you've captured a peaceful and very attractive scene. I think the photo has a bit of a bluish cast to it which is evidenced by the blue in the foam lines, which I would expect to be whitish. Fine otherwise. Richard

Hi Lon,

That's a sweet scene and a pleasing image of it.  I think I understand your title.  You and Preston have probably made at least 793 images of that river and it's area so far, but they are all nice!

Another beauty, Lon. The foliage has a wonderful delicate feel and the colors really pop under the soft lighting. Fine as composed but it feels maybe a tad heavy on the right.  I would be inclined to play with cropping a bit off the left side (about 50% of the area between the smaller pine and the frame edge).

Your familiarity and appreciation for this area are evident in this image.  I like the streaks in the water as well as the beautiful color.  No nits from me!

A most appealing classical composition to my eye, Lon. The gentle flow just makes the difference for me.

If there's anything that would be your signature, this would be it. I envy your access to such a storied and beautiful place.  But more importantly, I envy your knowledge and familiarity of this location.  I think that's what brings these images home more than anything else.  You know what works, and you deliver consistently beautiful images from here.  This is certainly no exception. The colors, the lazy flow of the river, the wonderful soft colors.  Could be anywhere, but knowing where it is adds to it's effectiveness.

Hi Lon,

I have nothing but respect for you and this area of the world,as you always represent the beauty of this area in such a wonderful way. I enjoy the scene as presented because it is well balanced, the colors are gorgeous, and I feel at peace looking at this view. The texture of the water really compliments the details of the structure up top nicely.

I really like the idea of cropping from the left as well, as I believe it will concentrate the attentionj of the viewers to the gorgeous colors.

I love it as Lon

Thank you everyone for your comments and kind words.  I especially appreciate the kind words from Gary and Ryan. That means a lot to me.

I wasn't going to repost, but after I re-read the comments, I made some tweaks.  A small crop off the left, played with the greens in the pines and blues in the rocks.  I think improved a bit, thanks again!
