Wonder of Worthington

A repost of a panorama I posted quite a while ago while the image size was limited.

This is a view of the Worthington Glacier near Valdez, Alaska in June of 2006.  The image is stitched from 2 rows of 8 vertical photos. It can print as large as a piece of plywood and still have tiny little details.

All photos were the same settings:  Sony DSC-R1, ISO-160, f/16.0, 1/640, tripod.

Excellent, Gary. I like that you've got an angle that screens the Richardson Highway out of the photo.

We're losing Worthington Glacier, an iconic roadside icefield in Alaska:

Quite the stitch, Gary, two rows of 8.  The details are great and the scene wonderfully inviting.  Now if only I could display the full image on our 55" TV (even with the pixel limits...maybe at 4K or 5K...)  The sky and the clarity of the peaks/snowfield/glacier show much better in the larger view.

Wow, you did a lot of great work on this Gary. Nice composition. Nice sky, good colors on the glacier and the greens. Can't find anything to nit on this. We had a grey day when we visited Worthington back in 2007. This is a nice sunny view of it.

Well done.  Nice placement of the stream in the valley.  A wonderful view with fine color and composition.

Jim, when I first arrived in Valdez in 1952, Worthington Glacier looked very much like the photo in the article from your link.  It has shrunken that much in just my lifetime and the change is visible every year.

For some idea of the amount of detail in this image I attached a 100% crop from roughly the middle of the left half.  There is a little piece of the road going up to the glacier and you can see the centerline, a sign and what looks like the front of a motorhome.
