This detail of Big Leaf Maple leaves was made last Autumn in Yosemite Valley. This was taken in deep shade just after sunrise.

Pretty little intimate image. To my eye, it looks a bit saturated, but I imagine most folks will not see it as such. Very nice composition, too. Well done, Mr. Birdwell.

On an unrelated note, I have been looking into native resolution on various cameras and brands (and you know why). You might do a little googling and determine if 160 might work better for that body than 100? I am not sure.

Preston, You did a really nice job photographing this intimate scene of nature. Great job with setting up this composition and also processing the image. It is saturated but for me I know that wet maple leaves can certainly appear that way, and I love the looks of it. Wonderful intimate scene!

Thanks, gents.

Harley, I compared the NPN rendering with my sized and sharpened sRGB PSD file and the NPN rendering is more saturated. I also did some searches for optimum ISO for the D7100, but the articles I looked at talked only about high-ISO noise. Research continues...

I reduced the red and yellow saturation and also did a minor curves adjustment in this repost..

The large version is Here

Thanks in advance for your comments!

Preston,

A lovely, intimate leafscape.  The arrangement of leaves is just right with the central leaf, and a good supporting cast.  I may not have noticed or commented on saturate (not with standing the NPN renderings...) but seeing the repost and comments, I think you've nailed it with the repost.

Normally I might not like the reflected portions, but I think here give this image a little depth and more interest.

Well seen!

I find these kind of scenes to be quite challenging.  This is nicely done - the somewhat central maple leaf really anchors the scene.

Preston, I much prefer the original!! The repost looks a bit "flat", in terms of both contrast and saturation. This may just be my own aesthetic preference, as the original is closer to what I would have done, but in this particular example, hands down, the original for me.

Preston, both are of personal tastes with regard to post processing as always. I lean toward the original image, but could not link to the larger repost. For some reason my McAfee blocked it.....wink
So, all I can firmly comment on is I really like the original with the overall composition and subject in the end.....enlightened

Paul, for some reason Bit Defender blocked it, as well. I will have to research this. I put the image on my other domain and updated the link in the re-post. You should be able to see the large version. Please let me know if you have any further issues.

Hi Preston,

This image is a beautifully created intimate leafscape. The framing is top notch, and I am fine with the saturation of the original image, but the repost looks great as well. I really enjoy these intimate images, and you really created a beautiful one.

The repost works fine for me Preston.  The original was not a problem at all.  I like that this little collection of leaves just jumps off the screen with color and luminosity.  An admirable leafscape for sure.  I would suggest burning the stem of the left leaf as it draws my a bit too much, particularly where at the junction with the leaf structure.  Small nit, very fine image.

In looking at the superior color variation of the leaf in the lrc I'm getting the impression that the back side of these leaves should give better results. The primary leaf just doesn't have the color complexity and starts to look drab when it's desaturated. The original version of this image is more appealing to me. I also like the dark blue reflections interspersed here and there amongst all that yellow and brown.
