Ode to Darkness

Iceland is special for a number of reasons, and these amazing glaciers are certainly one of the important reasons why. Glacial blue is such a beautiful color and to see miles and miles of this color in all directions around me was an unforgettable experience. Abstracts are not my strong suite, but I tried my hand at some glacial abstract with a long lens. This ridge line looked like waves in the ocean frozen solid. I wanted to process this image really dark and only bring out shades of blue. Appreciate any thoughts you have on this one.

A very abstract ice-scape, Sairam!  Waves of ice at night, for sure.  You absolutely have to see the large version to fully appreciate this!  Very nice and unusual capture! devil

You should shoot abstracts more often!  This is very impressive.  It really comes to life in the large version with all of the subtle detail.  You don't mention that it was shot at night, but it certainly feels as if it was.  Excellent work!  devil

Works for me! Real nice abstract. The strong blues work quite well as does the dark presentation. Very well done.

The larger view is stunning, Sairam. The ice waves are incredibly detailed while they emerge from the dark.
I like a lot the snow spots which break the ice texture. Love this abstract.

Sairam,

This is outstanding! (well, at least the larger view as I can at least make out what this is a little better.)  Terrific job with the processing - you  are successful in your intent and vision.

One of the most fascinating aspects of this is the mystery of it all - and the lack of scale leaving the view to their own imagination.

I Love this! Great work.

Lon

ps.  NPN: Another example where the original and larger views are not displayed equally.

This is killer Sairam.  An absolute must to view large.  Excellent.  I would like to see this as a b/w also, even knowing the blue is the thing here.  Nice work.

Wow, the larger version is absolutely breathtaking.  Truly a spectacular image Sairam.  Great detail, and the composition and exposure is dead on perfect.  Excellent photography!

The large version is soooo much better!  Really can see all of the details and think you nailed the processing.  Dark, yet luminous - how'd you do that!!!????  I always have a difficult time deciding how to crop these type of comps.  The bright snow near the top does pul my eye up there a bit, though not sure a crop below it would be any improvement.  Great job in seeing and processing to your vision.

This is a wonderful ice abstract. I am not usually a fan of so much blue, but it sure works here!. Very nicely done!

Thanks all! Harry, I just played around with the sliders in ACR and landed on this. After that, it was down to some dodging. :)
