Sterna sandvicensis

I found this Sandwich Tern stretching on the beach at Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine, Florida. I really like this pose, however, I do wish it's eyes would have been open wider.

Marvelous pose, and really nice water/reflection. Exceptional detail in the feathers. He looks like he is stretching and "yawning" so eyes closed.
Sorry about your camera, but glad it continued to function until it got to the hospital.

Love the outstretched wing pose. detail, and light.  I got a similar pose a few years ago, but totally clipped both wings.  Good work.

A wonderful pose, Matt, and you framed it perfectly.  Very well done.

This is a unique pose Matt. You did a great job processing the whites, plenty of detail. I don't think he could stretch those wings any further. Nice light and catch.

The stretched out wing position on this gives the bird some intent.  I like the reflection and you did a really good job on the color.

I love the detail and sharpness in the wings.  Feathers have such a unique look.  I understand what you say about its eyes being open, but still this is a really capture, with that pose.  Cool!

A beautiful portrait of this stretching tern Matt. Wonderful details and a complimentary background.

I actually like the eye, it seems to help express the mood of the bird in my opinion.

Sweet One!!!

Great pose and beach/surf setting. Don't mind the eye being shut!
