Gooseberry River +original crop

This is an older picture I made on the Gooseberry River in northern Minnesota. The river flows into Lake Superior right behind where I was standing here. I made the picture in the early light around 6 AM on a beautiful late August morning. No one else around yet and it was wonderfully quiet and peaceful for awhile. The water level was low so I could get a bit different view than I had shot before. I put this up around an hour ago but decided it needed some small web adjustments when I looked at it here. Took it down and reposting it again now.
5D2, 24mm, ISO 100, F/18 and 1/2 sec exp. Larger version included.

I missed the first version, whatever you tweaked, this one looks truly great. The detail on the trees is absolutely great. Composition and colors also work very well.

Nick,

Wonderful.  The pano presentation really brings the viewer right there!  The composition is very strong here.  I love the sky, but also how the sky, and the river kind of originate out of the shallow v between the two banks of trees (hope that made sense.)  The foreground isn't especially exciting, but provides a strong base to the image, AND, I see what looks like to be the old, decomposed remains of a fallen tree coming in from the LRC. (A great compositional element)

The only observation, nit or suggestion I have, has to do with the shadows, especially in the trees on the left. At first I wanted to say they are ever so slightly muddy, but then not really. then I thought the darks were a little on the red side.  I took some liberties and tried it.... you might consider setting the black pt in the darkest spots in those trees on the left.  It's subtle, but I think the little bit of added micro-contrast takes this one up a notch.  This is one of those images that needs to be the best it can be so you can print and hang over the living room couch.....

This is very tranquil, but has a dynamism I like very much. The large version looks great! I do agree with Lon's suggestion to tweak the black point in those shadows. The light and color look really nice, Nick.

This is so different from the wintry images you have been posting.........what a sweet summer dream.  Definitely need to view the larger version on this.  I like the detail in the trees, and overall feeling of this. It just breathes nice summer morning! The colors are super nice.

Really nice shot of the Gooseberry River, Nick. Maybe not as spectacular as the Yellowstone or the Colorado, but peaceful and serene in the soft morning light. The pano comp worked well here and the exposure looks right on.

Beautiful pano, Nick. While not in your face dramatic it is a very inviting and peaceful scene with wonderful details. Processing in the large version looks good to me.

Nick, it's a spectacular scene with some wonderful light and a great "classic landscape (e.g. Hudson Valley)" feeling with the arc of the river, a fine foreground and that gorgeous sky.

This has a painterly look to it in the older traditional way in composition and presentation. I really like how natural it appears yet still has an inspirational sense to it. The sky and clouds have such natural tones to them. It's not an ambitious statement. It's more calm and accepting, letting the subject speak for itself. Very well done.

Thanks to all of you for the nice comments. Here is the original picture I shot before I decided to do the crop. Just thought you might like seeing it too. I did cross the river to make this shot on this morning because the water was low, but other times when I have been here I would not even think of doing that...especially in the dark like I did this morning. Thanks, Nick

Nick, this image has that quiet beauty that really sings a very soothing tune.  I think you made the right decision to crop this where you did.  I like the decaying log coming in from the lower right corner.  Just exceptional.

I love the flow of the river, contrasting tree banks, and that sky. Interstingly though, I prefer the foreground of the uncropped version.
