Reeds and White Frost

by Peter Richter

Gallery: LandscapePosted March 9, 20173,727 views15 comments
This is an image from an icy day in January this year with remarkable white frost. It was taken at the shore of Lake Neusiedl in the Pannonian Steppes, at the Austrian-Hungarian border.

Comments and critique are appreciated.

I really like the simplicity and feeling of this image. I could see this hanging in an art gallery.

This is exceptional, Peter.  Love the placement of the reed bed in the frame and the soft colors are to die for.  Fine Art for sure.

Dang! This is real nie, Peter. I like the 4x5 crop which outs the emphasis were it need to be--the reeds. One minor suggestion; There is a bit of reed just to right of the center of the main group that is quite bright--it grabs my eye. This would make an exceptional print.

This is just gorgeous, Peter. The fog has helped simplify the image to just the ice covered reeds and frozen water. Great eye to spot this beauty.

Peter, Wow!! This is absolutely Fantastic! I love the composition you came up with here and the conditions you captured are just amazing. Wonderful work on this. What a striking print this would make...it would be super cool on metal too. devil

Lovely soft light and colours in an all but monochromatic composition.

Nicely done.  I like the simplicity, tones and softness.  I also noticed the short stem that Preston noted.

Peter,

Simple, clean and very beautiful.  There's a quiet peacefulness to this. I like the brighter band at the bottom to break up the reflection and create a base for the image. Beautifully seen and captured.

Small nit - I would clone out the tiny black spec off the edge, upper right third.  Minor, could have been a coot or something in the water. Nno biggie.

Beautiful scene captured well.  Overall, I like it a lot.  The only suggestion I can offer is I might crop about 10% off the bottom to eliminate the brighter area of reflection.  There's very little color but what is there is very important, and I'm glad you didn't convert this to B&W.

Cold and peaceful feel to this.  The slight magenta cast adds a subtle warmth to the image, despite the snow and ice.  Excellent use negative space, in this case the sky and ice that help make this works so well.

Agreed, very nice Peter. I love the delicate ice on the grass in the larger view.
