Nice portrait of a nice Kudu! Is there perhaps a tad bit of movement in the photo? When I look at the larger version there seems to be something like that showing up.

Sandy,
These are always wonderful so see, I think you needed a faster shutter speed?

Majestic animal and pose. The facial patterns are impressive. I hope you have a sharper frame in the sequence. I don't think stopping down was needed in this case.

Hi Sandy,
This one looks familiar - perhaps you posted a similar one a while back? Maybe my imagination!
A very nice portrait and those horns are SO visually powerful (REAL eye-magnets). Between those and the facial pattern this shot has real "drawing" power. I do agree that opening up a bit more and softening the background a bit might have made the shot a bit better, and I see what Jenaya and the others are referring to re: the "movement" in this shot. I don't know if you use (or how comfortable you are with) Photoshop, but this kind of blurring can really be cleaned up a lot with selective use of the "Shake Reduction" filter (it may take some experimentation and careful opacity and masking work, but with some images it's just AMAZING what it can pull back into focus).
Cheers...

Yes, I did post this before. People thought the BG needed to be blurred a bit so it didn't compete with the buck,.
Did that here.
Will look at the "shake reduction" in PS.

Can't find "shake reduction" in PS - here is a little added sharpening.
