Ok, so I can't believe I haven't posted this yet! It is one of my favourite photos! My family and I were exploring Waterton (as usual enlightened) when we happened upon this guy grazing. We had our long lenses on and were getting nice closeup shots. I noticed the boulder behind him and thought it would be awesome if he stood up there, so I put my wide angle on just in case. All the sudden he actually went up there! I couldn't believe it! He started striking poses like crazy. I think that this showcases the Bighorn Sheep habitat nicely, and I like the addition of the lake as well on the left.

I am also proud to announce that this image is currently on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History!

Thanks for lookin'! crying

Talk about being in the right place at the right time. It doesn't all come together like this very often. The habitat, the "perch" and the ram all come together to make this image special. You did post a similar image back in 2014. It was spectacular also.

Anticipation plays an important role in photography, if one anticipates and things happen, then one is an a better position to execute it. enlightened
I find the arrangement within the frame, excellent! All the elements are precisely placed. If this was my frame, then I would tone down the white rock.

I love this ram in his habitat. Great foresight with putting on the wide angle ahead of this. I love his head turn as well. The comp is great, with the ram and the background peak balancing each other across the diagonal line of trees, which is made even more powerful because the edge of the trees are in shadow. Great shot!

Since I feel like I have to offer something by way of critique, I might try to crop the water on the left edge because there's so little of it, but it's not really a big deal.

Just fantastic Jenaya! Dream shot. Beautiful habitat, behavior and great subject and light. I agree about darkening the rock. Also, if you have more of the lake in the frame, I would include it. It adds to the beauty of the scene and shows the more features of the habitat.

Cheers,

Hisham.

WOW, what a great pose and in a great setting. Such a classic that just screams the Rocky Mountains. Had to make your day and week to capture such a wonderful image. Way to go!

Jenaya: this is not a typical photography term, but this photo is a "sock knocker" as in it knocks my socks off!! Great in all respects. Richard
