Bobcat

Bobcat photographed at Santa Clara Ranch in South Texas.  This animal walked around the back of the clearing in front of the blind I was shooting from, it was kind enough to stop and turn for the camera for a few moments.  A few moments later another Bobcat followed the same path and about a half an hour later that animal came in for a drink, I will also post an image of that soon.  I was thrilled to get some images of this species which I had seen a few times but never managed to get a good image of before.

Canon 1DX II, 500F4 1/2500 F6.3, iso 1250, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley head, blind (settings for bird photography), full frame.

Excellent! Nice, cooperating cat - sweet light, great face/stare/eyes, and typical habitat.

Yes, Nate, every bobcat I see is on the move!  Congrats on these encounters and you made good with some nice warm light, too.

Great shot, Nate.  During my 20 years living in the Colorado foothills I only saw a few Bobcats and never had one in view long enough for a photograph.

The spotting on some of these Texas bobcats is pretty intriguing.  There's much more of it along the body than what I've seen on bobcats in California or Wyoming/Montana.  You almost wonder if there's some ocelot blood in the lineage somewhere (especially since there have been some ocelot sightings on our side of the border)! ;)

Lovely portrait, Nate, and congrats on the sighting.  The light couldn't be better for this.

What a find, Nate!! That pose is pretty special. I find myself wanting just a smidge more room on the left for his hind leg. Can't wait to see the next in the series!
