This ladder is on the side of an old rusty ship in Bellingham, WA harbor. The image was taken using a 3 MP P&S, Coolpix 5700 from a kayak.

It seems that 3 MP can do a pretty good job. Seeing that the main component of this image is the ladder, you might consider giving it more of a portrait format by cropping some from the LHS and also, if you can, by adding more at the top. This would probably make an interesting print and also a good B/W conversion.

Impressive effect that the light has here to make the latter more than it is. The off-center composition definitely helps this.

David,
This is fantastic. Yeah, the ladder anchors the image and like the positioning and space - including all the space for the ship's siding. The detail and texture is quite amazing for that little Coolpix (and processing btw.) this tells a great story and honestly I wouldn't have though of a ship - a water or grain silo perhaps, but not a ship.
No nits at all. Beautifully seen and capture.

David: this is excellent as an abstract. I really like how the shadow of the ladder is so much well defined than the ladder itself. Would never have guessed that I was looking at a ship.

David, this is a very interesting image. I tried to figure out what the ladder was on prior to reading the description. You got me. Not a ladder that I would want to climb. Lots of texture, lines and mystery in this one!
