Fishin' Buddies

A title I believe to be stolen from someone else on this site within the last year, but still appropriate.  Obviously they aren't and didn't act like it, but they happened to cross in their independent paths at exactly the right time and I had enough dof (but none too much) to pull it off.  I like the contrast between the appearance and style of the Reddish Egret and the Stilt.

7D2, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, hand held, f/8, 1/2000, iso 800, manual exposure.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped to 6.7 MP (almost as small as that old first Digital Rebel).  I put the Egret and Stilt on separate layer because my focus was on the Egret and I needed to add sharpening to the Stilt.  Hopefully it looks acceptable at the posting sizes.  Taken April 14th at 7:54 AM at Charlie's Pasture in Port Aransas, Texas.

PS-  I just checked and it was Mike Ramy's image of an Osprey and a Kingfisher, but he spelled out "Fishing".

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Nice to get them both sharp.   Usually if I were trying to do this and there was enough light, I would go up to f13 or so.  But your method worked well too. devil

Hi Dennis, nice you got the two together and the water provides a lovely off set to the subjects. Before reading Charlie's comment, my first thought would have been at least f/16 and raised the ISO to retain SS, but sadly I feel there is a limit on the 7D2.

This is so awesome.  I think it's more than acceptable.  Who would ever think you would ever catch something like that in such clear water at just the right time?  Very cool.

I suppose you could call this the odd couple.  Definitely a different pairing.  But I like it.  The focusing is a little bit of a stretch but your technique seems to work.

I've viewed this image many times before commenting and now know what I especially like: While both birds are in similar positions, moving forward with an objective in mind, one is aggressively doing so with little or no concern for you, while the other is quite daintily doing so, even to the point of pausing in midstep to look at you and give you a shy sort of look. At least that is what appears to me. Nice photo!

This looks good to me Dennis, odd pairing but interesting to see. Nobody else mentioned it so maybe it's my monitor, it seems a touch bright to me. Very minor nit on a very cool image.

Unique pairing in this image Dennis. This also provides a good sample of the size difference of these two birds.
