Canon EOS 7D EF400mm f/5.6L USM
1/2500 sec;   f/7.1;   ISO 640
Manual;   Spot metering
LR5, PS6, Topaz Detail on background, Smart Sharpen on bird, 2x3 crop

This immature Little Blue Heron was with a few Snowy Egrets.  I looked it up to study it more when I got home, and Audubon says that these two birds are probably closely related.  Several sites said that one reason for them to often be seen together is that the immature Little Blue Heron feels more protected that way.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

You had a very nice vantage point for this photo and were able to get some terrific detail.  The image is a little dark especially around the beak where it's difficult to find separation between the beak and the background.  That's really my only criticism.

Nice detail in the plumage, Barbara, and I like the framing.  If it had been possible at the time a lower angle might have provided more separation of the dark part of the beak from the background.  However I know you're willing to get low when possible, so I suspect it wasn't.  A nice image of this youngster regardless.

A very nice view of this Juvie, Barbara. I love to see them in this plumage. A very good job with the exposure , the whites look great with plenty of detail. My only nit is the angle that you captured gives the water the appearance that it is tilted. I do not think it would be noticeable if it was open water, but the vegetation makes it more pronounced.

I agree about the rotation  Barbara
Maybe a bit tighter cop might bring out a bit of detail in the beak ?
Cheers

Wow, the rotation thing made me dizzy!  I think this is right now, but let me know if it isn't.  I will work on the beak some more also, but I wanted to get the rotation right first.

Barbara, I don't see any difference in the rotation between the original and the repost. It definitely looks like it needs rotating some more. It may be just be a optical illusion because of the odd shooting angle. I love the plumage of these juvies and you captured it well.
