One More Scissortail

My last day on the Texas Coast was not at all productive, but I did find one cooperative Scissortail Flycatcher along Hwy 774 east of Refugio.  This is as almost as close a shot as I was able to make of this species (the closer one was an earlier shot of the same bird).  I like the subdued lighting that brought out the subtle shades of gray in the plumage instead of making it look so white as it tends to in brighter sun.  I also liked the setting and the form of the branches surrounding it.

7D2, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, beanbag on truck window, f/7.1, 1/320, iso 1000, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped to 11.2 MP before resizing.  Taken April 15, 2017 at 7:46 AM.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

And one more  beauty.
Like the branches-I like habitat shots.

Very nice look at this Scissortail, Dennis. I really like the surroundings in this one. Nice job with the composition, that long tail makes it challenging.

I still have no images of these guys Dennis. They certainly are not easy to get close to (at least in my experience). Nice job with how you handled the busy BG in this one.

I too like the soft light in this. The long tail makes it hard to compose; this works fine for me.

Hi Dennis, the subject pops nicely against the backdrop, with a nice overall colour palette. You have to view the larger version to appreciate the image.

This environmental image has a very nice feel to it.  The pastel colors really help provide a nice mood.  Tough to crop but you've done a good job.  Wonderful light and detail.

Really nice Dennis. I also like the setting and the color palette is very complimentary to the Scissortail. Never seen one of these, but it is a very cool bird and it gave you a nice headturn. I wonder how it would look with the bird dropped a little lower in the frame. It would take away the larger branch on the bottom...unless you wanted that included. Great shot as posted.
