Altai Hunters

Several years ago, I had an opportunity to spend a week with an eagle hunting family and Western Mongolia.  It was an incredible experience.  This is Silao and Agolai with a fox that was just caught by their eagle.  They were elated.  If you have seen the recent film The Eagle Huntress, you might recognize Agolai (on the right) as the father of Aisholpan, the 13-year-old who is the subject of the movie.  We met her when she was only five years old.

Picture was taken with a point-and-shoot.

David:

What an interesting experience!  When I visited my friends in Novosibirsk we didn't have time to get  down to the Altai, a favorite area for them. An landscape very much like Alaska, but right at the corner of cultural boundary. When we used to fly Shanghai to London, we went right by the Altai, again from the air, even high as we were relatable for it's circum polar aspects.

Thank you for bringing a wonderful image of the people there!

Cheers:   Tom

Dare I say... of National Geographic quality... story and imagery.   An experience I could only dream of.. in National Geo...

Great job capitalizing on this experience and opportunity.

Proof the Vision is more important than the gear.
