Bank Vole
This  little fella  came down to drink at the bird pool during the really dry spell. So not baited which is the norm often for meeces.
Nice change anyway.
Set up for birds as you would expect.

Hi John,

I like this one.  Cute and fuzzy and you were in the right spot at the right time.  I like the comp with the foreground and subject in tight focus..............................Jim

John,
I would think this is rarely photographed, but a very pleasing sight!
Baiting by either sound or food is something that is very unnatural.

I like the different elements in this image, John.  The dirt, rock, ferns and vole all complement each other nicely, especially color-wise.

The reddish/brown tones do seem a tick strong on my monitor (both in the fur and the background), but it's not unpleasant.

Thanks both.
Max - Not sure what the red in the BG is -looks like some sort of dead stem   I,ll have a play later.
I was so keen to get a shot I never noticed it. You don't get the chance very often in the wild. It amazes me on some  forums how stuff is passed of as  wild when it is obviously  captive..
Thanks

The face, head and feet of this little one are nicely sharp, John.  The colors in the vole stand out very well also.  An outstanding catch on a very small critter.

John the details and colors are really nice. I love that front foot. I also really like the ferns and rocks in the BG. No complaints from me.

Uncommonly fine image of a common species. Well done.

Thanks again guys. Cute little fellas but get them in a greenhouse  and they can certainly cost you some plants !!
They eat the roots as well as the leaves !

Hi John,

I'm in full agreement with the others about how this is just an excellent shot. And, it's a fine reminder that one doesn't have to "focus" exclusively on the charismatic megafauna to produce fine wildlife photos. Nicely done...works for me exactly as posted.

Cheers...
