Transition

Thanks for the comments and reaction to my previous image.  Here is an image from last November's Yosemite trip that I hadn't posted yet.

For this one, I thought of "Transition" because this is basically where the meadow meets the forest.  The odd-ball, curving branch is what drew my attention.  Just not sure if it's enough to carry the image.  BTW, I have tried in b&w and wasn't happy with what I was seeing.  I do like the fall color contrasting with the monochromatic "ghost" forest.

Your opinions and suggestions always welcome!

Thanks!

This is real nice, Lon. I would be tempted to crop down from the top, removing about half the space between the curved branch and the top. For me, that really makes the leave pop and emphasizes the curved branch.

I like this too, Lon. It really does show the transition and I like how it feels. The term "ghost forest" suits these trees perfectly. In the large version I like the comp fine as is but Harley's thoughts on the crop do work as well.

Another vote for the crop suggested by Harley, Lon. I think that places more of an emphasis on the wonderful transition that you are showcasing in this lovely scene. At first I was not sure about the curved limb, but with the crop it just seems to have a better flow, if that makes any sense. Anyway, this is nicely done.

Thanks for the comments folks.  Great call on the crop Mr. H.!!!  Funny, I hadn't even considered that; funny too cause I'm still partial to the 4:5 ratio.

I've cropped the master for an alternate view. I like it!

Works great for me.  I like you you successfully incorporated the "oddball" branch into the composition.  My initial thought was that it breaks up the vertical flow, but I have now switched and like the added variety it provides.  The greens and yellows seem a tad bright on my monitor, but that could just be the light in here this time of day.  Overall a nicely composed and finished image.

This is very nice, Lon.  Not something that pops out to most people.  Your portrayal of this seasonal transition tells the story very well. The crop suggestion does sound good, but as is works for me.

I would also go for the crop. Overall this is a very intriguing image, Lon. I like the combination of the colors and the grey upper image. The twisting branch is amazing.

I really like this, Lon!  The contradiction of the horizontal 'S' shaped branch and all the rest of the vertical and horizontal straight lines gets your attention immediately and makes it the primary subject.  I agree that the color contrast of the leaves and the monotone trees is very important in the overall impact.  In addition, the large version shows all the fine detail that you captured so well.  It's very sharp and has lots of stuff to look at once the eyes leave that branch.
