White Mountains, NH

A section of the Pemigewasset River as it winds it's way through the White Mountains of NH. This is from our trip in June of last year; hopefully conditions will be just as good this year.

Thanks for taking a look and leaving a comment or suggestion.

Real nice perspective and scene. I would be inclined to remove the cyan and make the water white, but then again, some here call me the Cyan Nazi! :) The fresh green leaves look great.

Ed, very nice composition and veiling of the water.  The only suggestions that I have are that you might lighten up the shadows at the base of the trees and warm up the temperature of the water to remove the blue cast.  Good image as is!

The texture in the water is perfectly blurred to give the right sense of motion.  It seems a bit blue to me, but tastes can vary on that.

The color of the water looks fine to me, Ed. I guess that is an ongoing point of discussion here at NPN!

If anything I could see the entire image a bit brighter which would have the effect of making the water somewhat whiter. As presented it looks like the sun has been down for a while, which maybe it was. Nevertheless a fine image of a rushing creek.

I like the idea here but I feel the shutter speed was too slow in this case. It would be better if the lower half had greater texture to balance more properly the upper half. The lower third looks too undefined somehow, too amorphous.

The difficulty I found when shooting water close up is that the closer water moves faster within the frame than the far away water. So you don't get a uniform level of blur water throughout the image. It's probably best to get the near water right and let the more distant water a bit sharper. Just my thoughts.

In regards to the blueness. Many of us like to show shadowed light in it's natural color rather than compensating as the eye sees it. It varies with each composition although the compensation done in postprocessing often comes out slightly unnatural IMO.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone; always appreciated. Here is a repost with a little cyan removed and the shadows opened up a bit.

Ed, This is very nice work! I was fine with the original post but the repost does look great. I like the comp, nice highlights in the background trees and the water motion is very nice.

Wow, Ed, i really like this one.  Like some fantasy forest.  My only suggestion would be to crop from the bottom at least to a 4:5, taking care of some of Igor's recommendations. I absolutely love the light on the background trees.   Beautiful, Ed.

Ed, great shot! I know that section of the Pemi well, and you captured it well. I could see a crop off the bottom as has been recommended, but I think this works as well as is. The repost looks better, I like the overall slightly warmer look throughout.

Great shot, Ed. The light on the BG trees is perfect and I like the blue/cyan tones in the water. It gives it a cool, refreshing look. It would have been really awesome if the nice patterns in the water of the bottom right half went all the way across, but there was nothing you could do about that. I don't think I've ever gotten a decent shot from this spot.

Here is another version with the suggested crop from a couple of folks. I had originally thought about a crop, but I really like the water action in the LRC. Thanks everyone.

I feel the rush! Your adjustments seem to improve the overall image, though I do like the fanning water in the lower portions of the original. Curious if this was near the Basin res through Fran Notch?

You got it, Harry. This is from the bridge as it crosses over the river. My brother and I are heading up to Sugar Hill in a couple of weeks for the lupines. Do you have any recommendations for any other photo opps not to miss in the area.

I like your adjustments to the white balance and shadows.  Regarding the bottom crop, my personal preference would be to add back about half to include some of the fan, but your preference may vary.
