Scissortailed Flycatcher

Sorry for posting yet another one of these, but I find them incredibly beautiful and just couldn't resist.  This is the same bird as the last one I posted but taken quite a few frames earlier, before it moved up into the tree.  I liked the little stand of dead vine, so I didn't make any attempt to remove it, though there was a tiny tip protruding into the bottom of the frame that I eliminated.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, bean bag on window, f/7.1, 1/400, iso 1000, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Arbitrary crop ratio from a horizontal original.  Final size was 7.9 MP.  Taken at 7:46 AM on April 15th near Refugio, TX.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Boy I really like this image.  Wonderful detail, good pose and background.  A natural perch would be better, but this is where they frequently perch.  Nice work.

They are certainly beautiful birds, Dennis. And you have done a nice job capturing this one. That barbed wire is so rusted and weathered, it almost looks like a limb. The small vine does not bother me a bit. A very nice image!!!

Hi Dennis,

No apologies needed.  Nice comp and the barbed wire perch works well for this species of bird.  Well done......................Jim

No apology needed here Dennis. This is fantastic. Great color, pose, perch, BG, and I really like the hanging vine too. Nice work.

Dennis, fear not for posting another - shooting images of these guys is on my bucket list, have never seen any.  As you know the perch is always a strong factor, but the rusty barbed wire is cool, and the dead vine adds to the natural environment.  If mine I might give the brightness and sat a little bounce, taking care not to alter the nice soft light, which is quite pleasing. Of course optionally, you could easily remove the vine in post, but certainly not a deal breaker.  Overall a very good image.

This is very cool, I like it a lot. I don't mind the barbed wire at all. The color palette works great. Cool image Dennis!
