Morning Call

I saw this male pheasant fluff up and begin to give his call as an invitation for the local ladies and warning for the competition.
I like the stance on the stump because he seems to be an authority figure on stage. I also like all of the vivid colors.  I am not sure if I should have taken a little off the left side of the photo but I left the right side alone due to the pheasant tail being so long.
As always I appreciate everyone's comments. I have a lot to learn.

Canon T5i
Sigma 150-600 C Resting on a piece of pipe insulation while using my car window for support. Thanks for the tip Dennis.
ISO 800
F 6.3
Shutter 1/400.

It seems the only bird at the prairie that is willing to sit still long enough for a photo is this guy. Thank you for taking a look.

That's a fun shot Brian, I agree he looks like he is on stage maybe conducting the orchestra.  I like the sharp head and blurred wings.  I would run a bit of noise reduction on the background.  Neat shot. devil

Very cool, Brian.  Your larger image doesn't show any larger on my computer, so you might have an issue with how you're posting it.  I love the pose and the stump and I think your crop is just about right.  My only real nit is that the one diagonal bg log that crossed just above the legs seems really distracting.  I think you could remove it with a little careful cloning.

I've seen a lot of pheasants but not one crowing from the top of a stump. Nice action shot. I agree about the noise and the diagonal background fallen tree. Looks like this rooster is missing some of his top-of-the-head feathers.

Very cool capture, Brian. I've watched them call but I've never seen this behavior. Very nicely done.

I like this shot, Brian.  It captures the energy of the activity quite nicely.  In this case the blurred wings emphasize the intensity and work very nicely.  I don't know how you could do the crop any different, considering the long tail feathers.

Thank you everybody for the feedback on the noise. I will try decreasing the contrast a bit to see if that helps.
