Canon 1DX, 500mm f4 x 1.4 TC, handheld
f6.3, 1/640, ISO 3200

Spotted this gentleman along West Mountain Road in central Idaho. The perch is an ancient telephone pole.

60% of full frame. Adjustments to Levels; selective brightening and sharpening of the bird.

Very nice as posted. A favorite species, shown well on an interesting pole.

An excellent capture with great color and fine detail, Jim!  The vertical format works particularly well because of the birds vertical orientation and the vertical lines of the tree trunk.

And he even gave you the right head turn to show the nape!  Quite the gentleman.  Excellent image, Jim.

Jim, there is something about this that makes my eyes hurt! Meaning no disrespect—this is a more than adequate image—but there is something about the head turn?? On a more serious note, I could wish for a skosh more detail in the blacks. I like, however, you caught the red nape, which suggests that you consciously waited for this to happen..

He gave you a nice pose to show off the nape. Jim. I really like the pose and that old pole makes a great perch.

A really pretty Sapsucker shot with a nice head turn and classic pose.  Really nice detail and background.  I had one in my mountain ash about two weeks ago for one day but the lighting wasn't so hot.
