Incoming Diner

Two eagles on the carrion and one coming in to join the dinner party.  This high value food is why I was able to get so close to the eagles.  They weren't willing to give it up for anything, including other eagles.  From what I could tell from the remains, the carcasses were sea otters. From the fact that there was very little fur present and no heads, I'm guessing they were left on the beach by one of the local natives who are allowed to hunt the otters for their fur.

Sony a6500, FE 70-200 f2.8 GSM @ 111 mm, ISO-100, f/6.3, 1/1600.

Very nice capture and amazing depth of field for f6.3, Gary. Nicely sharp wing tip to wing tip. Perfect exposure, too.

Cool action shot, Gary.  Good job framing them all and handling the contrasty light.

Excellent, Gary.  I really like the look of the incoming eagle.  Excellent composition.

Our national bird does tend to squabble over food.  Excellent capture! devil

Nice action in harsh lighting conditions here.  I think I like this one the best of the three you have posted.   If the natives are allowed to hunt the sea otters for their fur, do they eat them also at times rather than just leaving the carcasses?

David; I can't say for sure whether they eat the Sea Otter meat but from my own personal experiences, having grown up with many Native friends and families, I would guess that they do.  Due to a subsistence history, even those with high paying jobs tend to follow tradition and make use of every part of an animal that they can.

Nice behavior shot Gary. I also like the incoming bird and it's shadow.
