Vernal Falls Mist

On my recent trip to Yosemite, I went most of the way up the Mist Trail (did not have rain gear and it was not worth getting drenched without it). This is an image from the bottom of the falls, with the mist providing the fog-like view.

Love the low contrast look here, Harley.  I like the soft energy vibe this has too.  Really nice.

Gary's soft energy comment gave me a thought. Wouldn't a crop off the top down to just below the dark area in the top center left help that idea? That dark area mentioned, just behind the rock wall on the left is the weakest part I feel. Such a crop would eliminate the nice flows at top center right, however. I've been to that area. It takes a lot of courage to stand there with that spray blowing towards you. Nicely done.

Yes!  Actually I like it even more cropping off the small dark triangle where the Falls isn't falling.  It makes it even more ethereal.  Aah just read Igors comment and I concur.

Harley, love the a fine ethereal sense here with all of the mist.  I could see this on the wall providing a meditative escape.

Wonderful composition.  I agree that the dark area at the very top 5% detracts a bit. More abstract totally high key without it.

Harley:
I love this shot.  I had the same dilemma when I was a Yosemite because the Super Misty Trail.
The bottom part looks like Big Sur and the top looks like the Sierras.  Nice Work!

The ethereal mood this projects is gorgeous and the low key effect only enhances that mood, Harley. I could also see this working with a small crop from the top to get rid of that dark area in the ULC. I am not sure if that would be better because you would lose those nice flows on the center right. Either way this is a beauty.

Harley,

Fantastic vision in isolating this intimate capture of the falls and mist.  It's not often we see a photographer get in close with such a tremendous amount of water and spray.  Well done!

Very enjoyable.  I haven't decided if this is monochrome or color.

Fantastic, Harley.  Love your composition and the ethereal mood created by the mist and low contrast.  Had to be quite a challenge isolating this composition within all that spray.

Harley, excellent take here with a "whiteout" or "fogged" over impression. This works so well with the minimal amount of detail breaking through on the scene. The photogs badge of courage for taking on and making this journey toward the drench zone.......very well done.......devil

Harley, I really like the flow and low contrast in your image.  I could see dodging, lightening the darker area along the top left.  I would not crop as then you'd loose the flow in the rocks along the top which help gives sense of small to large as on views top to bottom.
