Folks,

Found this one in the morning. I could have made a clean image ..thought I will try our some thing new.
These insects live by the night and rest during the day. The tend to be sluggish if disturbed during the day.

Excellent capture, Brian.  I am not familiar with the Owlfly.  I love the position he is in (might be a normal pose, I am not sure), and the detail is nice.  Even the bright background near him, seems to bring my eye to him, rather than take away.  I like the shot.

It's a fine look at this owlfly, Balan, with good details in the fly and what ever that thing is on the opposite side of the stem.  The background works well at putting attention on the fly.  I'm intrigued by its pose, grasping the stem so tightly but sticking its abdomen out into the air.  Those long antennae are neat also.

I think the BG not only adds interest, but provides great contrast to subject as well Balan.
Like the pose and level of detail toodevil

Hi Balan,

Owlflies are choice subjects for capture. BG is nice and the pose is pretty good too.  I wish that I could see some of the shadowed details on the head and legs........................Jim

The insect is interesting, but the bokeh is what makes this image special.  Great work keeping the owlfly in focus while using a fairly wide aperture to generate the bokeh.

As I understand it, the adaptive value of this pose is thought to be that it resembles a twig growing from the branch.
