Came across this cicada, resting on a twig alone. I got closer and closer, and found that I was not flying off. It was well into the shoot that I realized that it has lost one of its limbs and what looks like a parasite ?? dug deep in. I did have a bad background, hence restricted the F stop

7D, 180 Tamron, F7.1, 1/80 @ 400 ISO.

Cicada's are amazing when viewed up close and face-to-face, Balan. This is a fine view, with all of the details. Too bad about the background, some addition dof on the head and mouth parts would look good.

Hi Balan,

Nice heads on view of this cicada. The phoretic mite is a good bonus too. Large view is very nice. Ideally, I'd like to see both eyes in focus, but sometimes its not possible. A good natural history shot!.....................Jim
