Reached the End

I was out watering the flowers and saw this caterpillar, and realized I had given him a free shower.  I ran in and got my camera. I took it with a Canon Mark II, Canon 100mm L macro lens at 1:1, using my K-X800 twin flash and diffuser made out of a plastic document protector with a sheet of copy paper in it.  Settings were f16, 1/60, ISO 320.  I had broke the stem he was on off so that I could hand hold it with him on it with one hand and my camera in the other, to allow me more distance from the grassy background.

Comments and suggestions welcome.  Thank you.

The quintessential "cute as a bug" shot, Shirley. Well done. Excellent comp, detail, light, and bg. Given the clean bg, a little more dof in the CP would have been ideal, but the pof is right where needed, and the dof is more than adequate. Very, very nice.

Very nice colors and textures.  Agree on DOF.  Add a tripod and a plamp and you got yourself a great macro setup...

As Scott says, cute as a bug. I also agree on the depth offield. Even one more stop would help. Still, a sweet shot as posted.

Nice Shirley.  I've tried that hand holding the camera and critter at the same time with very little success.  You did a great job pulling this off, especially at 1/60 sec.    I particularly like the in-focus face.

Shirley, the glow of the cat. and it's perch against the background looks great.  The sharpness of the face and hair at that end also looks great.  The few drops of water are a neat bit extra.  It looks like the cat. is busy chowing down on the end of the stem.  Yes, a slight adjustment in angle to get the tail end sharp as well would be a subtle improvement, but this looks great as presented with it's emphasis on the head.

This is great Shirley. Another excellent macro shot with your handmade diffuser set up, and yes, you must have amazingly steady hands.

Great point of focus at the head/eyes where it must be Shirley. Nice use of the diffuser/twin flash again as well..
